Recipient of the 2013 Miles Davis Award from the Festival International de Jazz Montreal, Charles Lloyd remains a major influence in jazz and contemporary music. In the the 1960s he was considered jazz-rock royalty and his album “Forest Flower Live at Monterey”, was the first platinum selling jazz record and introduced the world to Keith Jarrett. After a decade long sabbatical in the 1970s and 80s, he returned to performing and recording in the late 1980s. Known for his exquisite ear for pianists, Lloyd has welcomed the great talents of Michel Petrucciani, Bobo Stenson, Brad Mehldau, Geri Allen, Jason Moran, and now, Gerald Clayton, who is part of his newly formed quartet comprised of Clayton, Joe Sanders and Gerald Cleaver. His concerts and recordings are events of pristine beauty and elegance, full of intensely felt emotion and passion that touches deep inside the heart.
