Drew Tofin, Saskatoon’s 22-year-old jazz crooner, put on a spirited performance at Louis’ Pub on the U of S campus last Friday, November 15. It was the first time Tofin had hit the stage with a full big band and Louis’ was overflowing with high-energy fans and supporters. These are photos from Saturday’s concert.
After trading in headbanging for banging out ROI calculations, Saskatoon singer Drew Tofin has found himself slipping comfortably into the role of jazz crooner. Tofin is so keen on jazz that after a few successful gigs with a four or five piece band, he’s expanded his jazz crew into a full-on big band.
Friends of Foes couldn’t have picked a better song to feature in their premier music video. Barely ten months after their first full rehearsal together, the four-piece Saskatoon group is very much in control of their sound, their passion, and where they see themselves going as a band.
Benny Green is a jazz messenger for life. Preserving swing jazz traditions is a responsibility he takes very seriously. It’s a tradition he aims to keep alive — or at the very least, breath as much life into it as he can, while he can.
