Out of all the shows and all the events happening over the next ten days, the four Bassment jams hosted by the Outer Bridge Ensemble may just be the most exciting, at least as far as I’m concerned. They’re hosted by some of the musicians who put on the wildly entertaining Story of Jazz night back in April. The Outer Bridge Ensemble never fails to be an outstanding highlight of the festival.
Here’s the official description of the jams from the Sask Jazz website:
Come down to The Bassment for a nightcap of live improvisation as Jazz Festival artists and local musicians climb on stage with the Outer Bridge Ensemble. Follow us on Twitter or Facebook to find out who which special guests will be joining the house band for these after hours jams. And if you’re a musician, be sure to bring your horn, axe or vocal chords and you can join in on the music making.
For late night music and jazz lovers, this show is the place to be for swingin’ music until the wee hours of the morning. And musicians, don’t forget that you can come get on stage and play some tunes with some fantastic musicians. It’s a brilliant opportunity for young musicians to come test their chops with some of the best, and veterans to come groove with their peers.
There are four Bassment jam nights during the festival:
- Saturday, June 22 at 11:30 pm.
- Thursday, June 27 at 11:00 pm.
- Friday, June 28 at 11:00 pm.
- Saturday, June 29 at 11:30 pm.
