The jam-packed Saskatchewan Jazz Festival lineup was released on Friday and if one thing’s clear it’s that jazz fans and live music lovers of all kinds are in for a sensational nine days.
April 30 was International Jazz Day and cause for celebration at the Bassment club in Saskatoon. The Story of Jazz was a special concert hosted by Mark DeJong that paid tribute to jazz’s unique culture, history and language. This post is a collection of images from that concert.
Mark DeJong wants to share his passion for jazz with everyone, and he knows just how to do it: with a celebration. “We’re recognizing the importance of an artform that brings people together.”
The Brothers Arntzen Band swung into the Bassment in Saskatoon on April 23, and with the dance floor bursting at the seams, put on one hell of show. This post is a collection of images from that concert. The hot and sweet New Orleans flavoured jazz quartet from Vancouver is on the homeward leg of their prairie tour, with stops planned in Unity, Kerrobert, Edam, and Lloydminster, then off to Alberta and back across the Rockies.
The Brothers Arntzen Brass Band is Bassment bound. The New Orleans style quartet will be making their way to Saskatoon on Tuesday, April 23. I caught up with them on the phone Friday afternoon as they pulled into Yorkton.
