April 30 was International Jazz Day and cause for celebration at the Bassment club in Saskatoon. The Story of Jazz was a special concert hosted by Mark DeJong that paid tribute to jazz’s unique culture, history and language. This post is a collection of images from that concert.

The Brothers Arntzen Band swung into the Bassment in Saskatoon on April 23, and with the dance floor bursting at the seams, put on one hell of show. The hot and sweet New Orleans flavoured jazz quartet from Vancouver is on the homeward leg of their prairie tour, with stops planned in Unity, Kerrobert, Edam, and Lloydminster, then off to Alberta and back across the Rockies.

The 2013 Prairie Brass Band Festival kicks off this weekend at the Third Avenue United Church on April 19 and 20. This is one concert series that is guaranteed to blow. I mean that in the best possible way.
